Air Cargo Shipping – Savings and Discounts on Freight Classes

Air cargo shipping, in many cases, is complicated especially when it involves pricing. Parcels and letters are priced based on size, weight and as well as the level of service the shipper selects. These prices are usually fixed and seldom will you discover discrepancies or deviations in pricing. Indeed, when it comes to air freight shipping prices, you can really be surprised at how exorbitant an item will cost you.

National Motor Freight Traffic Assn provides pricing shipment system which is called the NMFC or National Motor Freight Classification and it works on the principle of having item classes and for each of these classes are assigned general prices.

Basically, items are grouped into different kinds in order to form better and easier listing. The groupings are based on such qualifications like mixed environment appropriateness, loadability, density among many other factors. Generally, air cargo shipping classes apply to all existing items, starting from letters to gargantuan vehicles, machineries and equipment such as planes and helicopters and planes. Air freight classes actually range from 50 to as high as 500.

Air freight shipments are actually being rated using the parameter of "per one hundred pounds." Other air cargo forwarders utilized per 100 weight system.
Every freight class is designed to offer discounts on base rates. Additionally, there are also discounts on transportation rates.

Still, these discounts might be set by charges which are usually treated as accessorial but important to base rate that will come up in the end for the air freight shipping.

In order for one to save on accessorial charges, it is a must for him to understand first the grounds and fully study the existing terms and conditions of air cargo shipping provided by the company.

Our company has just started finding new tenders for our air freight charter. When researching I have found differences in the measurement as you've stated too, particularly with American operated charter companies in Europe.
